Monc is a family-owned eyewear company who pride themselves on being a zero waste business, who provide authentic Italian, handcrafted eyewear. They wanted to explore the use of Augmented Reality on their site to encourage users try on glasses without having to physically visit their store.

Monc is a family-owned eyewear company who pride themselves on being a zero waste business, who provide authentic Italian, handcrafted eyewear. They wanted to explore the use of Augmented Reality on their site to encourage users try on glasses without having to physically visit their store.

A non-pressured approach was very important to them as a brand. They already offered a home try-on service, therefore we focussed on this area and changed to a combined AR try-on service.

The product page was key given this is where there is a genuine vested interest in try-on services. It was important to make users aware of the service without forcing it upon them.
The decision was made to use the 3D view as an entry-point in to the AR experience. Initial consideration was given to loading 3D by default, however it was agreed that this could interfere with the natural scrolling of the page.


We made sure we offered some simple functionality within the UI that allowed users to engage straight away, whilst at the same time providing a prominent entry point to the AR (virtual try-on) functions.

An additional feature we added was a ‘through the lens’ feature. This idea of this was to represent what it looked like through the tinted lenses. Monc offer a wide selection of tinted lenses so we looked to offer a way to both represent how they look on your face, and an idea of how they looked as you’re wearing them.
DEALING WITH DESKTOP
For users browsing on desktop, QR codes were integrated to various areas of the site to highlight the interaction. Bringing as much of the real-world buying experience to people is an ongoing challenge, but also an exciting one.
